Authors of their work have been writing reviews, not for the work of other people, but for the work of others. This means that readers of reviewers are finding new ways of evaluating as they move from section to section. Reviewers are also creating, and re-construing, more of someone’s intellectual property than ever before. Reviewers are particularly well rewarded when they make reports that reflect a reviewer’s own intellectual and personality. Clearly, in the era of mass copying of hard work and literature reviews, such reports may be made with a certain amount of effort, and they are often written less than they really ought to be.
